Tom Nix (CEO)
As CEO of Scala, Tom Nix focuses on Scala’s evolution and expansion in digital communications and customer engagement. He is passionate about digital signage as part of a company’s omni-channel strategy. He loves highly immersive, intelligent, personalized experiences that drive high returns for Scala’s many customers across the globe. He believes that leveraging Scala’s Advanced Analytics to predict patterns and improve conversions is a major value add for our customers and is always looking forward to Scala’s next big idea to advance the industry forward.
Formerly VP Americas & Oceania, Nix was responsible for all of Scala’s Sales, Services and Support operations in the US, Latin America and Oceania. He joined Scala in July 2010 and spent three years in the digital signage market working as the Vice President and General Manager for Dynamax Technologies. Prior to joining Dynamax, he was Director of business development at Main Street Direct, an media agency specializing in direct, online, mobile marketing campaigns for blue chip clients. Previously, Nix was Vice President of business development for Marins, where he was responsible for driving revenue generation and client acquisition initiatives. He has also served as Vice President of business development for match21, a b2b marketplace service provider. When he was 24 years old, he founded Sunshine Mountain Productions, a record label and distribution company which he sold in 1999. Nix attended the Executive Program for Growing Companies (EPGC) at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business in Palo Alto, California.
Jen Douglas (CFO)
Jen Douglas joined Scala in 2012 as Chief Financial Officer. In this capacity, Mrs. Douglas’ responsibilities include managing the Company’s worldwide functions of finance, technology, facilities and human resources. Mrs. Douglas brings 20 years of industry experience with a career foundation in finance and operations at General Electric Company. She has successfully achieved results in a variety of business cycles and is certified with GE as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
Prior to joining Scala, Mrs. Douglas served as FVP Finance & Risk Operations at Ambac Financial Group, Inc. Prior to Ambac, Mrs. Douglas was the Business Operations Leader, Digital Media for NBC Universal. Prior to NBC Universal, Mrs. Douglas was VP, Financial Planning & Analysis at JPMorganChase. Prior to that Mrs. Douglas held a variety of senior financial and operational positions within GE and its subsidiaries. Mrs. Douglas holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from Marquette University.
Peter Cherna (CTO)
Mr. Cherna is responsible for Scala’s global product development team, which continues to leverage technologies, such as predictive analytics, social media, mobility and more, to provide the market’s most innovative digital signage solutions.
Mr. Cherna joined Scala in 1993 and has been employed in various technical and engineering management positions during that time. Prior to Scala, Mr. Cherna led the development of significant portions of the Amiga operating system at Commodore International Limited.
Mr. Cherna holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from McGill University in Montreal.
Guillaume Proux (Senior Vice President, Asia)
As VP Asia and General Manager of Scala KK based in Tokyo, Mr. Proux is responsible for Scala’s operations in China, Japan and Korea (CJK).
Based in Tokyo, Japan, Mr. Proux joined Scala in 2003 to start up Scala’s Asian operations to support the company’s growing number of Far-East customers after the earlier release of the Chinese, Japanese and Korean versions of Scala’s InfoChannel Digital Signage software suite. In 2006 he led the formation, incorporation and staffing of Scala’s new wholly owned subsidiary in Japan, which also saw the birth of the Japanese version of Scala’s website as well as the first Digital Signage blogs in Japanese.
Prior to joining Scala, Mr. Proux was a System Architect with Symbian, developers of the mobile operating system used today in over 40% of smart-phones world-wide, including models by Nokia and Sony-Ericsson. Prior to Symbian he was team leader at Fusion System Japan responsible for the development of the software client used for over half of the stock trades on the Osaka Stock Exchange. He brings to Scala a strong mix of skills ranging from technology to finance and business management.
Mr. Proux holds both a Master of Science in Telecommunications Technologies from Aston University (Birmingham, UK) as well as an Engineering Degree from ENST Bretagne (Brest, France) and is fluent in French, English and Japanese.
Frank Larsen (Senior Vice President, EMEA)
As Vice President of Scala EMEA, Mr. Larsen is responsible for Scala EMEA’s operations, with a focus for growth in the entire region. He’ll be managing both the EMEA office in Maastricht and the Nordic office in Oslo. He was previously General Manager of Scala Nordic, where he focused on helping our dedicated partners grow their business and changed our training program to become aligned with customer requests.
Mr. Larsen has a long track record of working with Scala, starting in 1991 where he worked as part-time consultant for the Scala office in Denmark. In 2003 he became a Scala Certified Reseller partner and led his company to become the top selling partner in Denmark. In 2006 he was asked by Scala to formulate a strategy for building a more extensive reseller partner channel in Denmark and in 2008 he was appointed as full-time country manager for Denmark to execute on that plan – resulting in Denmark being ranked as one of Scala’s top selling countries in 2010. Mr. Larsen was appointed to the position of General Manager of Scala Nordic, in March 2011.
Mr. Larsen has leadership experience from his time in a Danish government agency and has also worked as a consultant for a team building and conflict management agency. He is fluent in English and the Scandinavian languages as well as having some understanding of German and Spanish.
Dan McAllister (General Manager/Vice President, Americas)
Dan McAllister is responsible for all of Scala’s Sales, Services and Support operations in the US, Canada and Latin America. Most recently he was VP of Business Development at Firestone Financial where he drove new vertical development for the commercial lender. Prior to joining Firestone, Mr. McAllister spent 15 years launching and building a large digital media company for TouchTunes Interactive Networks. Dan had many responsibilities for TouchTunes including Head of Sales, Marketing and Market Development. In his capacity of SVP Sales he built a highly productive sales teams and channel partners that drove client acquisition and revenue. He was the driving force in designing and implementing structure, process and systems to support his teams. He also executed on many go to market strategies that supported music, mobile and DOH initiatives. He is also on the board of directors for Michaels Way a charitable organization that helps families with children with cancer. Mr. McAllister is a graduate from Babson College in Wellesley Massachusetts where he studied Marketing and Entrepreneurial Studies.
Harry Horn (Vice President, Global Marketing)
Mr. Horn joined Scala in 2010 with over 20 years of experience in marketing and business development. As of November 2012 he is responsible for managing all aspects of the global marketing strategy of Scala. In his new role, Mr. Horn will lead and, in close cooperation with his regional teams, execute the marketing, communications, research, and sales support programs to further expand market knowledge of vertical-specific digital communication solutions that create strategic advantages for business owners. He will also focus on combining the experience of Scala as a global player with regional specifics in marketing and sales support. Before serving in his new role, Mr. Horn’s position was Marketing Manager EMEA.
Previous to joining Scala, Mr. Horn served as European Marketing and Business Development Manager at ACCO Brands Corporation, one of the world’s largest suppliers of office products, with annual revenues of nearly $2 billion. Before that, Mr. Horn was employed as Marketing Manager by Office Depot and he was in various senior commercial positions at GreenPower; where he was in a leading role growing the business from start up to a profitable business.
