Award-winning digital signage network upgrade by Scala improves communications and ramps up mobile visitor engagement across Swedish fun park
Sweden, October 29 2015 – Scala digital signage is at the heart of a park-wide communications network centralisation and upgrade project by Swedish amusement park Liseberg. The extensive digital signage roll-out by Scala drives marketing, menu board and mobile integrated queuing information over 130 players and 200 screens across the park.
The centralised solution runs over a Scala IT backend using a user interface from Scala partner, Vertiseit. It replaced an inefficient and unreliable legacy system at the park, which suffered from reliability and scalability issues.
“We have installed information screens, menu boards and game screens of different kinds,” explained Katarina Kolb, digital specialist at Liseberg. “They all contribute to improving the overall experience for our visitors.”
The signage network includes large LED screens at the main entrance, digital menu boards in the quick service restaurants (QSR) across the park and screens throughout the queuing system at attractions. The Scala digital signage system was also particularly successful in driving mobile visitor engagement at the park’s new Helix rollercoaster ride.
“The Helix app is a way to make the queuing time pass faster whilst having fun,” added Kolb. “It is synchronised with the screens hanging throughout the queuing section and makes it possible to win an express pass so you can skip the line. “
Scala’s partner Vertiseit developed this custom-made integration between the Helix app and the digital signage solution. Both the app and the screens drove record results last year: over a million visitors downloaded the app 250,000 times and played on it for over 30,000 hours.
Ultimately, the use of digital signage makes it easier for Liseberg to update and change the information shown to its visitors: “By pressing a few buttons, we can update opening hours and queuing times across 100 locations at once,” concluded Kolb. “This ease of use means the demand for these services is increasing.”
