My Registration Code doesn’t work! HELP!
Please note that the Registration Code that your QuickStart Player gives you is only valid for four days for security reasons. If you don’t register your PC within this time, you will need to reset your player to the factory defaults as follows:
- Plug in a mouse and keyboard into your QuickStart Player and power the unit on.
- When the six digit code shows up, press ESC on the keyboard to exit to Windows.
- From the Start Menu, select RESET PLAYER TO FACTORY SETTINGS.
- Reboot your Player, and a new registration code will be generated. Please activate this code within four days.

I need to configure the player for Wi-Fi. How do I do that?
- Connect a mouse and keyboard to your Player.
- Press ESC to stop playback and exit to the Windows desktop
- Mouse over the tray icon for Wi-Fi settings, right click and select “View available wireless networks”.
- Select the network of interest and click CONNECT.
- If the network requires a key, please enter at this time.
- Verify that you have successfully connected to the internet by opening Internet Explorer from the Start Menu and browse to http://www.google.com.
- Once that has been verified, restart the player by Selecting “Start Scala Player” from the top of the Start Menu.
I have a proxy server. How do I configure that?
- Connect a mouse and keyboard to your Player.
- Press ESC to stop playback and exit to the Windows desktop
- From the Start Menu, select CONTROL PANEL and then double click INTERNET OPTIONS.
- Click on the CONNECTIONS tab then click on LAN SETTINGS.
- Check the box under PROXY SERVER and enter the address and port number of your proxy.
- If you are not sure, please consult with your network administrator.
- Click OK and OK and close the CONTROL PANEL.
- Verify that you have successfully connected to the internet by opening
Internet Explorer from the Start Menu and browse to
http://www.google.com. - Once that has been verified, restart the player by
Selecting “Scala Player 5” near the top of the Start Menu.
I bought a QuickStart player, but I want to connect it to my own Content Manager?
No problem.
- Just plug in a keyboard and press ESC to exit to the windows desktop.
- From the top of the Start Menu, select “Configure Scala Player 5 manually”.
- Click on “Content Manager Location…” from the Player Configuration Tool Menu.
- Enter the URL of the Content Manager, with Username and Password. Click OK.
- Click REFRESH and Select the player from the list of players in the drop down list.
- You may also set any other advanced settings in this tool. For more information, review the “Player 5 Getting Started Guide” from the DOCUMENTATION short cut on the Start Menu.
- When complete, restart the player by selecting “Scala Player 5” near the top of the Start Menu. You will see the QuickStart Welcome screen until your own content is downloaded to the player.
Can I connect an IAdea player to Scala QuickStart?

How do I change the resolution of my QuickStart Player?
- First, from the location tab in the QuickStart web GUI, make sure that the resolution setting is correct. You would normally pick either 720p or 1080p depending on your screen.
- Next, plug in a mouse and keyboard into your player to exit to the Windows Desktop.
- Select “Configure Scala Player 5 Manually” from the Start Menu, then select the Playback tab, uncheck, SAME AS DESKTOP and select the desired resolution from the drop down list, then click OK to exit. A typical resolution is 1360×768 or 1920×1080.
When complete, restart the player by selecting “Scala Player 5” near the top of the Start Menu. No reboot is required.
Can I use the second video port on my player to drive a second channel with QuickStart?
That feature is not available with QuickStart, but is available with the full Scala 5 product line. Contact Scala at 1-800-SCALA96 or [email protected], and we’ll connect you with someone that can give you a quote on upgrading your system.
How do I reset a QuickStart Player to the “factory defaults”? I want to start over.
- Plug in a mouse and keyboard into your Player and press ESC.
- From the Start Menu, select RESET PLAYER TO FACTORY SETTINGS.
This will completely reinitialize your system. You will need to re-enter the six digit code at http://registration.scalaquickstart.com and follow the initial set up instructions (document is here).
How can I remove a player from my QuickStart
account?
From the LOCATIONS tab in the QuickStart web interface, check the “remove” box next to the player you wish to “reallocate” and then click save.
You can then “ADD” a location from the “ADD” tab.
If you wish to permanently delete the Player from the system, “remove” the location and send an email to [email protected] with your Player ID (eg: SQS0000023)

Can I access the Content Manager on my QuickStart account?
As a Scala QuickStart customer, you do not have access to the underlying Content Manager server, however we are able to upgrade your account to a full SaaS offering. Please contact us at 1-800-SCALA96 or [email protected] for a quote.
How can I upload a template to my QuickStart account?
In order to upload templates from Designer, you must be a Scala Certified Partner with a copy of Scala 5 Designer. You must also have a “user role” called “Scala Certified Partner” on each account that you wish to publish templates to.
How can I control different zones of the screen with a different playlist or schedule?
Scala QuickStart does not support multiple independent zones of content, but you can design a full screen layout with multiple areas that appears to be multizone. If you need multi-zone, multi-schedule, multi-playlist functionality, please contact us at 1-800-SCALA96 or [email protected] for a quote on upgrading your system.
How can I remotely view what is playing on my QuickStart player with VNC?
- Every QuickStart Scala player is reloaded with UltraVNC.
- The default username is IC5P.
- The default password is the same password as your QuickStart account.
- You will need to know your players’ IP number however.
- You can find this by plugging in a Keyboard and Mouse, then pressing ESC to exit to the Windows desktop.
- Then choose COMMAND PROMPT from the Start Menu, and type “ipconfig” and ENTER.
- Your IP address will be shown in this window.

My content takes a long time to download. Why is this?
The players will check with the servers for any updates every 10 minutes be default. If there is something new to download, the player will download just the differences. Often times, the largest files are videos, and sometimes those take a while to download, so please be patient.
