Dow Chemicals increases employee engagement with digital signage from Scala

By February 26, 2013 No Comments

There have been many developments in digital signage over the past couple of years. Usage of our software platform has increased dramatically as more and more companies now understand, and embrace, the opportunities it has to offer. Brawn Consulting Inc. reports a growth in deployments of more than 20 percent a year in the US during the past 5 years.

One of the pioneers for corporate communications is Dow Chemical co. located in Midland, Michigan. The company ran its own networked TV channel to communicate with its 52,000 employees starting 30 years ago. In 2004 they upgraded from a coax cable network to an IP network that allowed for HD broadcasts on large flat screens in over 30 locations worldwide.

Dow Chemical’s Scala based network broadcasts weather forecasts, local sports scores, newsfeeds, volunteer opportunities and teasers for HR news available on the company’s intranet. The content is customized based on region. thus some is in German and some is in Dutch. The flow of content is managed centrally using the Scala Content Manager. The company has found that the mix of HR teasers and local news of personal interest to their staff has resulted in employees becoming more likely to read, and engage with company news on the intranet.

There are many more examples of how Scala is used for efficient corporate communication across the globe. Learn more about some of them here
